FAQs

My players are not interested in attending Dartmouth, is this still the right camp for them?

This is a multi-university led development camp for students of all academic backgrounds, whether the aim is to someday attend a local college, an Ivy League school, a top-10 rugby university, or simply to just get better as a rugby athlete regardless of future scholastic goals.

The US Collegiate Development Camp is ideal for a student looking to get a lot of exposure at once with his potential future coaches, whether that is university or national age-grade level, as well as to learn in a safe, fun, and internationally innovative environment.

I want to be a US national team player, is this the right camp for me?

At the US Collegiate Development Camp a player will have the opportunity to work with current coaches of the High School All-American team (national u18s), the Collegiate All-American team (precursor to the national senior team), the US Falcons (national sevens development team), and USA Rugby’s National Development Director (oversees the national player pipeline leading into the men’s national teams). Moreover, there will be coaches from some of the regional based National Development Academies as well as a collection of former international players who have since gone on to be championship winning university level coaches.

I am playing in a USA Rugby Regional Cup Tournament on June 24 and 25, will I still be able to attend this camp?

The US Collegiate Development Camp dates were designed around the RCT tournaments to accommodate both players and coaches who are attending these important age-grade events.

I am playing in a Regional Cup Tournament should I still come to this camp?

The US Collegiate Development Camp dates were designed around the RCT tournaments to accommodate both players and coaches who are attending these important age-grade events. There are plenty of players who have committed to both the camp and the RCTs.

To accommodate these tournaments, and just as our staff has done many times with national team players, we will work with the athlete on his particular recovery needs in order to safely transition from tournament play and / or long travel into the camp learning environment.

From Boston-Logan airport there is a bus that runs directly to campus: www.dartmouthcoach.com

It is important for coaches to work with an athlete in a training environment and not just see that player perform in a match.

It is as important, if not more, for national age-grade coaches to work with an athlete in a training environment as it is to see that player perform in a match.

I am from overseas and want to test myself against the best players in America, is this the camp for me?

The US Collegiate Development Camp aims to work with players of all ability and experience levels no matter where they are from. There will be many top players in attendance from various states and countries, and should provide any high school player with a good measuring stick of how he currently is relative to his peers.

My son is 14 years old, is he still able to attend?

Yes, there are three camper levels, and the High School Accelerator group is designed to help younger high-school students prepare for success on the field in high school, as well as to help these students put together 4-year academic plans that build through high school into college:
•    High School Accelerator: campers with more than 2 years of high school left (rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors)
•    Advanced College Planning: campers with 1 year of high school left (rising seniors just finishing junior year)
•    Collegiate Maximizer: campers going into or who just completed 1st year of university (graduating HS seniors, current collegiate freshmen)

My players are only available for the top-up clinics (Jakl, Halfback or Lineout Academies), can they just sign up for these?

It is not mandatory that a student signs up for the showcase camp in addition to the top-up clinics. A player can decide based on his availability what is the best combination of activities.
