US Collegiate Development announces first round of 2016 college acceptances

May 9, 2016 — Hanover, NH: The 2015 class of US Collegiate Development graduates have received their first round of college acceptances. At press time, graduates of the 2015 USCD camp have been admitted to 37 distinguished colleges and universities in the United States and Canada, with additional acceptances still pending.

Last summer, over one hundred American and international high school student-athletes descended upon Hanover, NH for the 2015 US Collegiate Development Boys Showcase Camp at Dartmouth College. During the four-day program, USCD campers improved their rugby skills under the expert tutelage of top collegiate coaches, while also learning valuable college application strategies from The Rugger’s Edge

For many campers, the camp was an invaluable opportunity to connect directly with their future college coaches, and to learn more about the collegiate rugby experience.

“The USCD camp helped me meet several coaches I had contacted prior to the actual camp,” said Patrick Sheehy, the varsity rugby captain at Gonzaga, the country’s #1 ranked single-school HS program. “I was able to not only talk to them one-on-one, but also witness their on-field coaching styles.”

Sheehy is one of four former campers who will matriculate at Dartmouth this fall, reuniting with Dartmouth head coach Gavin Hickie.

Academically accomplished USCD graduates were admitted to ten of US News & World Report’s top 25 national universities (including four of the top 5), as well as four of the top 25 liberal arts colleges. At press time, seven of the eight Ivy League schools admitted USCD alumni in 2016, as have other renowned institutions including Colgate, Pomona, Stanford, Tulane, UC Berkeley and UCLA.

Schools with established rugby pedigrees were also well-represented, with former campers recruited to nationally-ranked powerhouses like Army, Navy, Penn State, Wheeling Jesuit, and St. Mary’s. Many USCD graduates were accepted to programs that have historically produced Collegiate All-Americans and US national team players.

“As team captain, I used some of the drills I learned at camp to lead our team to a 5-1 finish at an international tournament. Four teammates and myself were named to our league’s All-European/All-Tournament Team,” said Duncan McAloon, a senior at the American School of Paris. “The USCD camp greatly motivated me to pursue collegiate rugby,” added McAloon, who will suit up this fall for the Army Black Knights at the United States Military Academy.

“I had a great experience in my two years attending the USCD camp,” concurred Boston College High School’s John Dunn, a newly-minted member of Boston College’s Class of 2020. “The camp got me excited about college rugby, and reassured me that I would be able to play in college, even for a competitive team like BC.”

The 2016 US Collegiate Development Boys Showcase Camp will be held from June 21 to June 25, 2016 at Dartmouth College. Additional top-up skill clinics will be available before and after the Showcase Camp. Coaches from America’s top academic and rugby universities will be present, although attending coaches are subject to change.

Registration details and additional information on the Boys Showcase camp can be found at the USCD website. For press-related inquiries, please contact USCD Communications Manager Bing Guan.
